Causes of Bushfires/How they start
Bushfire incidents in Australia can start in many different ways. Bushfires can be caused accidentally/naturally or deliberately/human influence. The main deliberate cause of a bushfire starts from arsonists. A match or a cigarette that has not been put out is thrown near bush or grass, starting a small fire, which then develops into a raging fire. Accidental or Natural causes are the main start for a bushfire. Some of these causes include:
Meteorological Information Low relative humidity, high winds and lack of rain all contribute to increased fire danger. Dry timber and grass (fuel) burn very quickly when sunshine and high temperatures hit. Hot air can reduce the moisture content of grasslands and forests to around 5% and in extreme cases to 2%-3%, which greatly increases the speed of the fire. |
